Sword Image Identification

This a new system that uses computer image recognition to try to assist you in idenitifying your sword. It will provide images of what it thinks are possible matches. The correct match may not be the first and some may seem very different from your sword.

It will primarily only match official military patterns athough it may provide 'very brief' information on other styles. We do not provide any identification guides for Japanese swords.

This is a brand new facility and may take some time to 'learn'. It will become more and more accurate over time.
If you do not find a match please use our established database searches, which has been used by collectors for over 20 years with great sucess.

For best results

Use an image of the WHOLE HILT and just a few inches of the top of the blade. Do not use an image of just the 'shell' or cyphers/marks.
The hilt should take up the majority of the image and try to have a plain background.
Try to avoid images that include any other objects (including the scabbard).
If the hilt has a 'solid guard' try to include any symbols or perforations/holes in your image.
Avoid images of the sword propped up on a chair or next to your feet in shot.

As it is computer intelligence it cannot identify very small differences between similar patterns, therefore the results should be used as a guide to steer you in the right direction. Once you have a close match look at this website and others and learn about the pattern to see if it matches exactly and what alternatives there may be.
